Springfield Community Theatre
The Springfield Community Theatre, Inc started in 1953 as a play-reading group composed of drama enthusiasts, many of whom had theatrical degrees and professional experience. The group was originally called The Footlighters, until 1965 when the current name was chosen to better describe group aspirations.
In the early years, SCT performed in many locations in the Springfield including Garfield Elementary School, Lee High School, Bratwurst House in Brookfield Plaza, The Charter House, and St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, where the group eventually found a home for over 20 years.
During those 20+ years at St. Christopher's, SCT became known as one of the foremost community theatres in the area and received frequent honors and awards for the excellence of its productions.
